How exciting to meet Emily St. John Mandel! And I am delighted to see that you read Eleanore of Avignon, which was written by one of my dear friends (and she has her sophomore novel coming out in August!).

Yay, I'll definitely preorder/keep an eye out for it!

i don’t think it’s classified as a romance but there is a book called under the udala tree which is about two lesbians living and falling in love in 1970s nigeria

Adding it to my list! I haven't read anything by a Nigerian author yet in my international reading project.

regarding Dragonflight- yes, definitely complicated! I spent many years immersed in the Pern world through fanzines (back in the earlier days of the internet). The fans greatly improved on the world in my opinion. I'm still very fond of the series but it definitely has problematic elements. My favorites are the Harper Hall trilogy about Menolly, which is more YA-targeted and I think it holds up better.

Ooh, I might check that one out! I did really love the world.

I have not read any other Sherry Thomas but I did enjoy The Librarians. I’m a long time Library Board Trustee so I appreciated the realistic depiction of how a library functions. Some of the plot points were a bit far fetched but it kept my interest.

Yes, you can tell that she actually understands how a library works! Her historical romances and mysteries are usually quite high drama so it's interesting watching her try to blend the two.
