love reading your thoughts on Hotel du Lac - expectations matter so much! and thankfully mine were set appropriately and I'm looking forward to exploring more of her novels. also, glad to see you loved Whalebone Theater; it's still sitting unread on my shelf!

Exactly! I think I might have had a better reading experience if I'd known more about her style and tone, or with different cover copy, and I'm curious to pick up more of her work with

adjusted expectations. (Maybe this fall? Her writing feels very fall to me.) And I hope you love The Whalebone Theatre when you do get to it!

It's so, so good--perhaps my favorite thing she's ever written? I've been finding myself drawn to books that are deeply emotional but not necessarily angst or drama laden this year and this was the perfect example of that.

I want to shove it into the hands of everyone I know with even a tangential interest in historical romance. It reminded me of the giddy feelings I got reading Lisa Kleypas for the first time years ago.
