I tried to read Gideon a long time ago and got sidetracked but you are convincing me to give it a real go!!

I think you might love it!!! Definitely a book best read when you know you’ll have a good chunk of uninterrupted reading time, I think, so you can really sink into the world of the story.

I love that you read Mary Stewart! I read all her books when I was a young woman many years ago and really enjoyed them. I picked them up again during the pandemic and was surprised how well they held up. I agree with you about One on One—enjoyed the NCAA basketball backdrop but thought the romance lacked sparkle.

I enjoyed her writing so much, especially the descriptions of Greece, and definitely want to read more! I ordered Nine Coaches Waiting from Blackwells so that might be up next.

I just switched to Aardvark as well! The picks are so varied, and I’ve really been enjoying it so far.

Same, I think they strike such a good balance! And their romance taste pretty frequently aligns with mine, which is nice.

I’ve been so curious about The Persians! I’m bummed to hear it didn’t work for you. It’s been getting so much buzz from the Women’s Prize Longlist so I’m still curious

It's definitely still worth giving a try! You might enjoy it more than I did--I tend to want to really get invested in the characters and their motivations in family sagas and the character motivations in The Persians sometimes felt a bit all over the place.
