I saw both Our Town and The Hills of California mid-September. I had some issues with Our Town, and I did really like The Hills of California (but I loved The Ferryman). Theater and books make life so good, don’t they?

The most marvelous things! Live theater is such a special kind of communion.

Thanks for such a great review. You’ve inspired me to pick up a T. Kingfisher that’s been sitting on my shelf. A House With Good Bones. The first sentence is the best:”There was a vulture on the mailbox of my grandmother’s house”. If that doesn’t capture a spooky gothic vibe I don’t know what will. 🫣

Ooh, what a perfect first line! I haven't read that one but also loved Nettle and Bone, if you like her style!

that's so many books! I love the way you wrote about All Souls. I've been feeling very conflicted about how the awful stuff didn't outweigh the rest of the book for me ... thank you! and I am so excited about the return of the Bake off (and for fall in general, which comes a bit later here in Georgia).

The Bake Off just feels like fall to me now! And I really struggled with how to write about All Souls, so thank you! I'm a big believer that books that aren't right for me can be a super rewarding experience for someone else.
