I hope to get back to a season of chunky books at some point. Margaret Atwood was always a fave.

Different seasons call for different lengths! I had times this year when all I wanted was something snappy but now the chunkers are calling my name.

I'd love to read The Blind Assassin! It sounds great. I've got copies of The Handmaid's Tale and Old Babes in the Wood which I'm saving to read in October 🫶

I've heard such similar feedback about Lady Macbeth! I was keen to read it but no one I know has been enthralling about it 🤣

I wound up DNF'ing Lady Macbeth. I do wonder if I would have reacted to it differently if it was sold as more of medieval fantasy/a take on the Melusine myth instead of a Shakespeare retelling? Because I just kept on going "this is not Macbeth...."

Fingersmith sounds really interesting! I've never heard of it.

It's perfect for fall! Dark and twisty, with rich, chewy writing.

What a lovely list, Natalie! I really want to read Possession but for some reason it intimidates me!? I’m also hoping to sink into The Bee Sting this fall/winter ☺️

You can 100% skip the Victorian poetry! It's definitely a book that might take a minute to sink into, because the writing style is really dense, so I would save it for a time when you have the time. But once you're in it, it's captivating!

Your Fingersmith recommendation pushed it to the top of my TBR - I’m now about 1/3 through and encountered one of those twists today. All I can say is !!!! (and I’m loving this book for extending my Victorian girl summer into fall)

I have an idea of what twist you might be talking about and it's a true !!!!

Fall is the perfect time for a long book, I haven't read several of these! I'm adding The Blind Assassin to my tbr- you had me with illicit romance

It's one of those books that I just can't believe the author pulled off--the layered structure is so, so clever!

I love nothing more than having a big chunky book to dive into, all of these recommendations sound great. Also obsessed with Secret Lives of the Mormon Wives - the drama, the jealousy, all of it!

It's fascinating! That awkward match between friendship and business, where they kind of have to stay friends to keep on making money on TikTok. I heard they're already filming season 2...

Yes to Pilcher! I can't believe I haven't read September yet, since I loved all the others you mentioned ~ I shall remedy that ASAP. Her books are so delightful on audio, so I believe I will go that route. Thanks for the reminder!

September is such a cozy, juicy read! I read it when I had Covid a few years ago and it was the only thing that successfully took my mind off the fact that I was coughing like a Victorian consumptive.

Just started listening this morning! And COVID is serious I know, but your description of yourself as a Victorian consumptive just made me laugh so hard ;-)
